The airlines in the UAE have been working on expanding their networks as there seems to be no decline in the demand for travel this year. In preparation for the peak summer season, there are several new destinations that travelers can consider, as they are now easily accessible.

If you’re looking to visit Portugal’s lively and urban capital city, Lisbon, or considering a budget-friendly flight to Kolkata in India, there are ten new flight routes that you can choose from.

Kuala Lumpur

Airlines : Air Arabia

Kuala Lumpur is renowned for its Islamic architecture, stunning beaches, and notable landmarks. As the largest city in Malaysia, it serves as a hub of culture and modernity.

  • Air Arabia will resume direct flights to Kuala Lumpur starting from March 20.
  • The low-cost airline will operate three flights per week initially from Sharjah International Airport to the capital of Malaysia.
  • From June, the frequency of flights will increase to a daily service.

Lisbon

  • Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, will launch direct flights to Lisbon this summer.

Copenhagen

  • Etihad Airways will launch four weekly flights to Copenhagen, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Scandinavia.

  • Copenhagen is known for its vibrant canal network, cosmopolitan cafe culture, and distinctive attractions.

Tokyo

  • Emirates will launch direct daily flights to Tokyo-Haneda from April 2, providing travellers with another option for getting to Japan.
  • This marks the first time the airline has operated flights to Haneda since the global pandemic began.
  • The flights will be operated via Emirates’ new fleet of Boeing 777s, offering premium passengers access to the celebrated first-class suites.
  • Haneda is located closer to central Tokyo than Narita, where Emirates already flies. This also allows travellers to access more domestic connections to destinations across Japan.

Christchurch

Christchurch is a popular destination among tourists due to its constant evolution, with visitors able to experience ever-changing street art, stay in trendy hotels, and explore numerous green spaces

  • Emirates is resuming flights to Christchurch, New Zealand, via Sydney.
  • This marks the return of the airline’s longest route since the global pandemic began.
  • The flights will commence on March 26, with departures first to Sydney, followed by a 1 hour and 45-minute journey to Christchurch on New Zealand’s south island.
  • Emirates has already announced that it is increasing operations to Australia.

Dusseldorf

  • Etihad Airways will restart flights to Dusseldorf, Germany, in October.
  • The airline had previously suspended flights to the city due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • There will be three weekly direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Dusseldorf, making it Etihad’s third destination in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich.
  • Dusseldorf is known for its vibrant arts and music scene, as well as its reputation as the fashion capital of Germany. The city is located on the banks of the Rhine River.

Kolkata

  • Etihad Airways will resume direct daily flights to Kolkata on March 26, with return fares starting from Dh1,145.

Sardinia

  • Flydubai is launching a new route to Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, on June 22.
  • Flights will depart Dubai on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • It’s the first direct scheduled international connection operated in Sardinia.
  • Sardinia is famous for its coastal drives, untouched beaches and rock formations.
  • Cagliari is the most Italian-style city on the island.

Shymkent

  • Flydubai is resuming services to Shymkent in Kazakhstan for the first time since Covid-19.
  • The low-cost airline will operate two weekly flights from Dubai to Shymkent starting from February 28.
  • The flight time is less than four hours to the central Asian city, which is known for its buzzing bazaars, ancient architecture and natural scenery.
  • Shymkent is flydubai’s third destination in Kazakhstan.
  • Visit Shymkent in spring to see wild tulips blanket the region.

Mogadishu

  • Flydubai is launching flights to Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia.
  • This is the first time a UAE airline is operating in Mogadishu.
  • The route is primarily aimed at serving transit and business passengers.
  • The daily service from Dubai to Mogadishu will commence from March 8.
  • The frequency of flights will increase to double daily flights in June.
